The place where the sun rises first in Korea.

That’s none other than Dokdo, a peaceful island in the East Sea.

Every year, October 25th is Dokdo Day.

Dokdo is made up of about 91 islands and rocks of various sizes.

The two main islands are called Dongdo and Seodo.

Nature on Dokdo is truly amazing.

Many kinds of plants and animals live there.

Because of its special value, it was designated as Natural Monument No. 336 in 1982.

Surrounded by clear blue water, Dokdo is full of life.

So many birds fly freely around the island that people call it "a paradise for birds."

About two thousand species of plants, fish, and seaweed live together in harmony.

But it's not easy to visit Dokdo.

The waves are high, and the weather often changes quickly.

People even say, "It takes virtue built up over three generations to set foot on Dokdo."

That's why, if you ever set foot there, it'll be an unforgettable moment.

Then why is Dokdo a part of Korea?

Let's go back to the Joseon Dynasty.

A brave fisherman named An Yong-bok lived and fished near Dokdo.

One day, Japanese fishermen came and caught fish there.

An Yong-bok went all the way to Japan and said,

"Dokdo belongs to Joseon. You have no right to fish here."

After that, Japan admitted that Ulleungdo and Dokdo were not part of Japan.

You can even find evidence of that in old Korean records and Japanese textbooks.

They clearly show Dokdo has always been Korean territory.

For about fifteen hundred years, Dokdo has always remained part of Korea.

Today, Korean police officers live there — not soldiers.

That shows Dokdo is not a disputed area, but a normal part of Korean land.

Historically and legally, Dokdo is clearly Korean territory.

Dokdo is more than just an island.

It's a symbol of Korea's history, pride, and love for the sea.
