Someone stole my wallet on my way home from work.

Right after I got off the train, I reached for it and realized my pocket was empty.

That's the worst feeling.

I remembered someone bumping into me right before the doors closed.

That totally sounds like a pickpocket.

I thought it was just crowded, so I didn't think much of it.

Did you call the bank to cancel your cards?

Yeah, that was the first thing I did.

Good call. At least they can't go on a shopping spree with your card.

But did you report it to the police?

Yeah, I figured I should, so I even went down to the police station.

But the place was pretty busy and kind of chaotic.

There were people yelling at the officers and some drunk guy making a scene.

The officers looked totally swamped, so I didn't even try to file a report there.

So I just went home and filed a report online instead.

That makes sense. At least now there's an official record.

I'm more annoyed about losing my ID and all the little things I had in there.

Yeah, replacing everything is such a hassle.

From now on I'm gonna keep my important stuff in a zippered pocket or in a crossbody bag.

That's a good idea, especially on crowded trains.
